Digital Intermediate Glossary

ARRISCAN – Film Scanner Enables digital laboratories and postproduction houses to drastically increase their productivity and experience a new standard of quality in film scanning. Due to its innovative design, the ARRISCAN is suited for almost any scanning application including Digital Intermediate, visual effects, restoration and archival.

ARRILASER – Film Recorder Bridges the gap between digital film production and analog film projection. It is the first cine film recorder to use three solid state lasers as light source, setting a new standard in productivity and reliability, significantly reducing the cost of recording digital images onto film.

ARRICUBE – Color Management System Matches the colors of a digital projection or video monitor to the resulting print film projection. ARRI CMS is used as 3D Preview LUT to modify the display of logarithmic images in the grading session, or as 3D Conversion LUT for HD and Digital Cinema Mastering.

ARCHIVAL – YCM Separation Master Is a method for long-term archival of Digital Intermediate Data. Three separate negatives of black and white film stock are recorded with the ARRILASER. The black and white process is considered to be stable up to 500 years after development and therefore an ideal solution for long-term archival, preservation and restoration. The Separation Master can be scanned with an ARRISCAN to digitally recombine the three dyes of the negatives to an RGB file.

DCDM – Digital Cinema Distribution Master Specified universal exchange format, which is provided by the DSM. It contains the uncompressed and unencrypted image structure, audio structure and subtitle structure. The DCDM corresponds to the finished color corrected answer print.

DCP – Digital Cinema Package Contains the compressed and encrypted image and audio structure as well as, if necessary, subtitles for the digital distribution.

Digital Color Correction System Is a shot-based, nonlinear grading system with primary and secondary color correction, unlimited vector shapes, keying, and multi-point tracking, fast and automated motion compensated dust busting tools, panning and scaling capabilities, filters and effects plug-ins and capable of conforming and re-conforming EDL or Keycode-based lists.
