Overview
Cinematic Quality For Super 16
Like the Master Primes, the Ultra 16 lenses combine high speed with outstanding optical performance. With a widest stop of T1.3 they create shallow depth of field and allow shooting on tight lighting budgets or under severe time pressure. Equaled by no other Super 16 lenses in optical performance, they join the other ARRI lenses in elevating the Super 16 image to its highest possible quality. All nine Ultra 16 lenses (6, 8, 9.5, 12, 14, 18, 25, 35, 50 mm) cover the full Super 16 format and are fully compatible with the optical quality, color balance and ergonomics of the other ARRI lenses. The Ultra 16 lenses are the perfect companions to the new Super 16 cameras, the ARRIFLEX 416, 416 Plus and 416 Plus HS.

Quotes from DOPs
Yes – the Ultras render absolutely beautifully, although I did try to use our full array of lenses. It was nice to know the calibration charts were right on the money for speed ramps. I did a lot of speed ramping because I wanted to see how well the camera could actually ramp from 2 fps up to 150 fps in 3.9 seconds – and it did it flawlessly every single time. We'd calculate our T-stops for the different frame-rates, plug them into the program and boom, it was right on the money with the correct exposure.
We also used the ARRI Lightweight Zoom, which was fantastic. Even in the brief footage we saw I was very impressed with the way it rendered, the way it looked – everything. We used it for the calf-roping and the horsemen running at us; I believe I might have used it for the motorcycles as well.

(1) T* XP is the trademark of the improved Zeiss anti-reflex lens coating that reduces flaring and other reflections. XP stands for extended performance.
(2) Close focus is measured from the film plane.
(3) Measured from lens mount to lens front. This measurement shows how far the lens will protrude beyond the camera body.
(4) Horizontal angle of view for a Super 16 camera aperture (DIN 15602 and ISO-5768-1998, aspect ratio 1:1.66, dimensions 12.35mm x 7.5mm / 0.486" x 0.295").
